Their impact was negligible. 9,300 balloons were launched in the campaign of which about 300 were found or observed in North America. No wildfires were positively identified as being caused by balloon bombs. 6 people four boys (Edward Engen, 13; Jay Gifford, 13; Dick Patzke, 14; and Sherman Shoemaker, 11) were killed instantly, while Joan Patzke (13) and Elsie died shortly afterwards were killed at a picnic (RIP) when A bomb disposal expert guessed that the bomb had been kicked or otherwise disturbed. Military personnel who arrived on the scene observed that the balloon had snow beneath it, unlike the surrounding area, and concluded that it had lain there undisturbed for weeks until discovered.

9,000 were launched. .3% made it to North America. 8 teenagers died by messing with a grounded one. A very effective weapon.

The expected course is the general wind direction and flow, which amazing can vary over time.

🙄The US was tracking it long before it was in US airspace and long before some random "photojournalist" random "first" spotted it. It does so all the time. Are you implying that the US doe not have the capability to eliminate the threat of a slow moving balloon "attack"?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Better check under you bed for CPC boogiemen, oh brave one.

@Tim Bosveld I really hope your post was sarcasm. WMD🤣🤣🤣

@swiftusmaximus5651 "extraordinarily Large Weather Balloon?" A 20ft Balloon has a volume of 4,188.7 cubic feet. A medium-sized school bus can range in length from 25 to 35 feet and interior height and width of x 7.6 x 7.5 feet. The total volume of 3 schools buses are 5,500 cubic feet, Swifty. So?

What is the "double coincidence" to having weather balloons flying at the same time in different hemispheres? Weather and wind?

"China spy balloon shows country is preparing citizens for war that could come at ‘any time’": expert Gordon Chang "China will collapse by 2011." also Gordon Chang In December 2011, he changed the timing of the year of the predicted collapse to 2012. His success at predictions seem on par with Harold Camping or the Jehovah's Witnesses apocalyptic ones.

@TRAZ4004 I didn't get that. Something about helium? . Could you repeat it? Your voice mysteriously changed pitch in the middle of your comment.

9,000 attempts to do it. The Fu-Go Program's success changed the entire course of WWII. The US would have won if only the kids didn't kick it.🙄
