@drea409 That big push button is the installed mechanism that opens easily from the inside. Ir was broken. The GM did not make sure it got repaired.

The big push button IS the handle. When it is properly maintained all you have to do is fall on it and the door opens.

@arcguardian The big button is a perfectly functional safety device... when it is not broken.

Technology breaks or can be disabled , such as the technology of the freezer door and the emergency button in this case.

That big push button, when it is maintained, will open the door if you just fall against it. There is no need for dangerous icy slippery freezer door handles on the inside of a freezer that opens outward.

@sumgijimothae The big button is the crash bar mechanism. Crash bar systems have more working parts susceptible to breakdowns. They break down at least as much if not more than the big button.

@bobbobson6290 1) Visualize the problem and you will see how useless that idea is. 2) The normally perfectly functional big button was broken, apparently for some time. 3) The alarm was disconnected.

@ChiquitaMia-ci2vg As a General Manager, she is the person responsible for the safety and maintenance of the store. If she he knew the freezer was capable of locking her in , she should have gotten it fixed.

@laurenanderson7330 Exactly how it works.
1
@seancuefas720 Obviously she was the GM so she could have authorized someone to stay with her.

@blairturner139 That is what the push button is, genius.

@istudios225 Do you know why you have to take the door off your normal household refrigerator and freezer when you throw it out?
1
@fm-9129 It opens outward.

@carriebaker5161 They had those buttons 50 years ago when I was managing restaurants. I had to fix one once. $20 in parts on my credit card, including the screwdriver and wrench. Billed the company.

@Gaze73 1/16th inch aluminum, insulation foam or fiberglass maybe 1/16th inch of steel. It is not a bank safe. Use some common sense.
1
@bn5445 She was General Manager, so clearly she did not care for her workers.

@istudios225 The alarm was disconnected.

As the General Manager, she was responsible for the safety of the store under her purview.
