  59.  @matthewo2261  First Matty, I did not make “blanket statements like" government bad!” You did. I stated a simple fact. Learn to read before jumping in to whatever uniformed simplistic screed you wish to spew. I grew up in upstate New York 1955-1975. Newspapers and media were local with primarily local content, coverage and opinions. The media had strict restrictions on market control to avoid media monopolies. Cross-media ownership was strictly prohibited allowing for a wide variety of views and viewpoints. This was regulated by the FCC. The local stations required to have a % local programming. However, they also bought content from large media syndications to save money by dispersing the expense of creating local programing. For the same economic reasons, cross-cultural contented was permitted and even encouraged, especially from Great Britain and even the USSR. This was regulated by the FCC. News shows were a separate category and were required to run on a station. They were also sponsorship restrictions, which angered a lot of station owners because they could not advertise/ make money from them. This was regulated by the FCC. At the time, the FCC had in place Fairness Doctrine required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was honest, equitable, and balanced. It was revoked by the FCC in 1987 Clinton’s 1996 Telecommunications Act allowed for media cross-ownership consolidating almost all media into the 5 major monopolies today. Those major media monopolies now control nearly all the content. Finally, “don't come back at me with the progressives and communists aren't banned from these media” continues to make a lot of assumptions Matty-boy. Not my view at all and that is something you need to take up with the former FCC leadership as well as the incoming one. Learn some damned history before you start spouting bullshit. And learn to listen.

  60.  @matthewo2261   Do you understand the word "controlled", as in past tense? I was responding to your inaccurate "blanket statement" that "What existed before the internet? TV, Radio, newspapers, and magazines. These categories of media also censored speech but in a way people couldn't see." I pointed out that your statement was inaccurate that the FCC had rules in place at that time that time that protected against monopolistic control of the media, contrary to your claim that the corporations controlled censorship the media AT THAT TIME. I was not disputing that consolidation did not affect the narrative. I was not disputing that the corporations are in control of the government and the media NOW. RE: “The AP has been around forever and has always been one of the core news outlets that everyone else draws news of the day, week, month from which allows them the set the narrative” In 1945, the Supreme Court of the United States held in Associated Press v. United States that the AP had been violating the Sherman Antitrust Act. The decision helped facilitate the growth of its main rival United Press International as well as numerous others including state and foreign agencies. Since then, you can refer to the Clinton Telecommunications act as consolidating the news services monopoly. As far as “...who owned/owns them?”, maybe you should be more concerned about Operation Mockingbird, or haven’t you noticed the number of overt governments “intelligence community” members being hired by the news outlets? Finally, as I said before, I was responding to your unfounded assertion that I said all government is bad. While the CURRENT government IS bad and controlled by the corporations, I never said all government is bad. That was you. The fact that I pointed out that there was government legislative blow-back in the past for monopolistic control proves my point. As I said, listen and learn to read. Histrionic knee-jerk screeds of inaccurate information invalidate your argument and will not help you to convince people of the validity of your cause. To be more succinct, don’t be an ass.
