@eze2190 We were energy independent of one month. We are still 90% energy independent in terms of both production and resources which is on par with the last half of the Trump Administration. However better than 50% of that production and resources are shipped out of the US. As long as we are shipping oil out we have to buy foreign oil at exorbitant prices.

@backcountry164 Just yes. "The US produces mostly light crude, but much of our refinery capacity is set up for heavy crude. So we export the stuff we don't have the capacity to refine." What sense does that make to not have the national capacity to refine what the national resources produce? This is exactly the problem that globalization creates.

@eze2190 Lack of investment has nothing to do with what Biden says. There is no reduction in either resources or production in the US petroleum industry. There is however a shitload of price-gouging in those companies based on the exorbitant profits above costs they have made in the past two years, especially the past 4 months, by using the excuse of redistributing national resources to foreign markets.

@backcountry164 Per the US Energy Administration’s information, in the 21 century, since its 50 year low point in 2008 at 5,000 bpd (barrels per day) US petroleum production has been steadily rising and peaked in Feb 2020 12289 bpd and immediately dropped during the pandemic in June to Jan 2020 where it fell to just under 10,000 bpd and then rose to 2021 11,188 bpd in 2021 and as f match 2022 it stands at 11,655 bpd. Gas LNG gas production nearly 20% increase in production since 2000 is also at near record levels at 116,606 million cubic feet per day after it peaked in dec 2021 at 18,681 million cubic feet per day. @90swerethebest10 US has enough production at resources at this time to meet 90% of its domestic needs as it did during the Trump Administration. Unfortunately 50% of that is shipped to foreign markets as premium prices and the US then has to buy foreign oil at premium prices to meet its domestics needs that only benefits the bottom line of price-gouging oil companies. I do not see a problem in at least prioritizing American needs first.

The price-gouging American Oil industry is doing fine at 90 % of domestic need in terms of production and resources just as it was during the Trump administration.The problem is 50% of that is (and was) shipped overseas, necessitating buying foreign oil, now at a premium.
