We have a change of government and yet the government is still not emphasising the benefits of preventative medicine by optimising people's diet and lifestyle, why?

Some traditional Chinese medical practitioners had an arrangement whereby they stopped getting paid if you were not well, it incentivised maximising the health or recovery of the patient.

@Ambrose136 Yes, but you may need to go to the ER department of a hospital if a GP can't see you, one that only charges the set Medicare rate. Some "bulk bill" so you need no money upfront, others take some of your money and Medicare refunds the rest. The problem with availability and going to the ED is that is is not intended to handle the overflow of the GP level cases and if it is under pressure from other events you could wait all day or night before you are seen.

@Ambrose136 I have no complaints, my wife has a medical degree and I don't need to see anyone else unless it is an emergency, then I pay cash and use the private hospital system as all the best ED doctors have a second job there anyway. 🙂 Our social safety net is good, but if you can afford it there are better options.

@Ambrose136 I don't use health insurance, we just put money away for when we need to use the private health system, and we very proactively practice preventative medicine. It is much cheaper in the end, and given we pay taxes to support the public health system we can always fall back on using that if we must. If it is just a kid with a broken arm I'd rather use the private system and pay for it, way better service, privacy and quality of care. One company we favour is Ramsay Health Care, and if I wanted the money I save in not paying for insurance I can invest in RH as they are on the stock market. See how for a large and sensible family how that could be a better option?

@Ambrose136 The total budget for our social spending as a nation is huge, about 30% of tax revenues for the government, and that is now at risk as much of the revenue is from fossil fuels. The climate alarmists are going to harm the poor the most, but they don't care, those childless inner city socialists, because they are utter hypocrites.

I know it is a completely insane situation. We have a change of government and yet the government is still not emphasising the benefits of preventative medicine by optimising people's diet and lifestyle, why?
