Microsoft is a bit of an industry joke when it comes to cyber security, they are constantly playing catch up and if they'd ever been made to compensate customers for the harm done due to their flawed products (as car makers do) then they would have gone broke a long time ago. M$ is a protected entity because they help facilitate the US government's intrusion into other people's systems. Intel is the same. I'm no fan of the Russian regime but their choice to go with slower homegrown CPUs and some custom variant of Linux speaks volumes. It is with these facts in mine that I state that this news about M$'s investment does not inspire confidence in me at all. The Australian government is so gormless that they can't even ensure the long term provable integrity of data. They have no timestamp server for signing checksums, this means that data held by companies as a legal requirement cannot be proven to have not been changed since its recorded creation date. At best we have to rely on third party servers, but if those companies go under or the keys are lost/become invalid then all data relying on them no longer has a provable provenance. BTW Bill actually knows about the above problem, so does the PM.
