Comments by "" (@DanielSMatthews) on "Facebook face-off turns global as PM seeks international support" video.
As a person with over 30 years of IT experience from commerce to academia and even defence related roles I can tell you that FB's actions against innocent and unconnected parties was no accident or result of an inability on their part to act with more exactitude, what they did is a very deliberate act of blackmail, they are holding all of those groups hostage in an attempt to manipulate our federal government and therefore they must be punished so that no company ever thinks that they can get away with such behaviour again. It should not be that hard to effectively punish FB, or the entire industry either, because a large amount of the traffic between people's phones, computers and FBs servers can be blocked without breaking the actual useability of the FB site, but it would really annoy FB as it is all of the data that they use to track people and compromise their online privacy. Block all tracking data and telemetry flowing out of Australian networks until FB shows respect for our democracy.

@Polleej We didn't vote for facebook's CEO, that is the difference.

@ivanbremer8662 Except facebook is selling a dopamine rush, they are one step below drug dealers.

@rpwang6784 No just deleting it is not enough the world needs to see that Australia can hit very hard for a small nation, when our sovereignty is threatened.

@rpwang6784 We do not need to ban them, we can grab them and the entire industry "by the balls" and use technology to break their business model if they are not sufficiently respectful. The idea is not to destroy them but to put them in their place and tame them like an animal.

@ivanbremer8662 A news paper is a publication, FB claim that they are not a publisher, they can't have it both ways.
2
@ivanbremer8662 Actually that is completely false, they may have to do as they are told or not operate any of their businesses at all in this or allied jurisdictions, because that is the power that lawmakers actually have over them. Businesses can't win such a fight without doing things that threaten our democracy and ultimately if they do that there are already laws in place that allow the DSD to take down their infrastructure, no matter where it is in the world. Australia is a sovereign state and may wage actual war against any entity that it deems to be a threat. That is the bottom line, just in case you forgot how the world really works.

@rpwang6784 No, it is perfectly scalable actually, once it is in place it can be applied to any pathological company and dialed up and down according to their conduct. All it needs is laws to protect user rights and penalties for breaking them linked to such a process. So long as there is a legal process and due process is followed then it is a good thing, to be able to punish business entities that act in a way that is demonstrably harmful to others.

@rpwang6784 Well that is up to your politicians and how smart they are at solving problems in a way that suits your national interest, that is their job, and their obligation.
1
@rpwang6784 Yes, the entire free world should.

@Polleej "Chinese-designed voter software" eh? That would make you either #deluded or a #PathologicalLiar either way I have no time for such BS.

@noidea9279 I think you missed the point.
1
@noidea9279 You don't get to tell me what I can consider relevant, because you are a nobody, an anonymous coward, and your opinions are worthless.
1
@noidea9279 Facebook can't exist without the consent of sovereign governments, nor can you as a matter of a fact.
