The woman who died was in her 90s so had at least a 1 in 5 chance of dying this year from any cause, and would have already been suffering from neurodegeneration, senile dementia. Contrast that against the harm done to so many young people by locking down a city. I suspect that they did not get the balance right, they need to favour the interests of the young and the productive more than they are.

@carolyneg3780 If an independent candidate or one from a smaller party gets enough votes (and they all preference each other before the bigger parties) then they can gain a seat in the parliament, but it takes a big swing in the electorate's opinion of who best represents their interests.

@item6931 Actually it is more likely that a person her age would benefit from nutrients extracted from younger people, the practice of giving older people a "boost" with transfused blood is more common than perhaps you would think. The point you have missed is that if I have to deal with an ethical dilemma and it comes down to lost years of life then it isn't hard to do the maths, 1 lost year at the end of one life or hundreds of years of lost life across an entire community. Perhaps that is beyond you to grock, I gather you are not very intelligent, even if you are rather opinionated.

@item6931 You actually have no idea what I am talking about. Sincerely, you are a fool, stop kidding yourself that you understand what people are saying well enough to contribute to the dialogue, your best efforts are off the mark to a degree that you should find embarrassing if you ever experience an epiphany and realise what a fool you have been. If I drive you to destroy yourself how is that not the equivalent of neglecting to protect you from something else? Where lies the magnitude of the greatest actual harm? If I take 1 day from the lives of 1000 people and 1000 days from the life of one person where lies the greatest harm? You see it isn't about age it is about days of life and, you hypocrite, it is that which is equivalent regardless of age.
