Bernardi is wrong, the virus does far more damage than suggested even if it does not kill you, because if you get very sick you can have 20-30% of lung capacity lost. Furthermore once the ICU beds are full everyone who is seriously ill is at risk of death as they can't be treated. As a conservative Bernardi seems demographically naive, where does he think many of the conservative votes come from? Without effective drugs to treat people, who present to hospital, so that they don't need a respirator we will have a disaster if the virus spreads faster than the hospital system can cope. The political reality is also that those governments who fail to act will never get future support from the families of those who died unnecessarily. I also believe that the long term financial costs are exaggerated and far more dependant on how we perform during the recovery phase than any other one factor. As for Trump, he is saying nothing because it is entirely conditional, DUH!

@traditionalfood367 Do some research for comorbidities in the Australian population, diabetes, obesity, heart disease etc. It turns out to be a very large number of people in total. Pretty shocking actually.

The estimate for the minimum Australian deaths for COVID-19 is the same, but it is 10 times more virulent than the flu so you can have 30,000 dead from the same population if you do not control the virus. Let me guess you know it really is far worse but you are racist and are hoping it kills off a lot of the Aboriginals who are particularly vulnerable?
