Comments by "" (@DanielSMatthews) on "Australia needs ‘sustainable coronavirus policies and not shut borders’" video.
An "economically sustainable" COVID-19 policy would see deaths per million at a level similar to the UK, so over 10,000 dead in Australia, that has always been the problem, do nothing and have no economic damage (other than the value of real estate imploding perhaps) and not have our medical people in danger, or act like we are humane and take a big hit to the economy while putting a large number of our medical staff at risk. It is a diabolical choice to have to face and either way there is going to be a lot of pain and anger. The only other option we had was to temporarily release a modified bacteria into the environment to lure the virus to its destruction with neutralising antibodies, an externalised immune system. The government has known about that option for the last four months too. The cruellest fate will be one where we ruin the economy, then have a lot of the vulnerable die in second or third waves before eventually waking up to the fact that a bio-shield will in fact work, after it is a bit late to make a difference.

@mattcrisanti1121 That depends, do you support this idea, which could make vaccinations redundant for many diseases? https://dsmatthews.blogspot.com/2020/04/covid-19-solution-changing-rules-of.html They are not mutually exclusive so people would then be left with a choice. I am pro-choice as it is a matter of ethics that no medical procedure be compulsory or coerced in any way, it must always be an informed choice. Such a bioshield may also protect people who can't mount an appropriate response to vaccines in the first place, e.g. the very old and the immunocompromised such as transplant recipients. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/immunocompromised.html
