These are a people who believe that it is OK for them to punish us for not conforming to their ways, because it is their god's will for them to do so, and so we should not interfere when their god appears to have decided that it is their turn to be punished for whatever wrong they have committed. However having said that I do support helping people in such societies, who reject that backward world view involving vengeful gods and religious totalitarianism, to escape. This is where the issue of refugees gets very tricky, young and talented people who wish to live a modern secular life have as much right to do so as others have a right to follow a fundamentalist religious path, but in places like Afghanistan it is impossible to have both peacefully coexist. So spend all aid money on helping those modern thinkers escape, don't spend a cent where it will prop up their oppressors and facilitate their dominance over those seeking freedom.
