The Russians know that they need to sell their oil reserves off at a rate that maximises their return over the period of time where fossil oil is still needed because they know that fusion reactors will provide so much electricity so cheaply that very high quality synthetic hydrocarbon products will dominate the market and cost less than all other sources. "Sell it while it is still worth something" is the maxim. Australia needs to take that reality into serious consideration too. Even our vast uranium and thorium reserves may become worthless in a world powered by compact aneutronic fusion reactors. As for solar and wind power, those investments will be less than worthless as the owners will have to pay to remove and correctly dispose of their junk technology that has hit its use-by-date.
