At best it has on average given 50% of those in aged care 6 months longer to live, assuming they were going to get infected within the next 12 months before they die anyway of whatever diseases disabled them so much that they could not continue to live at home with a home care package. It is not a materially significant thing to do at all, but it is the most humane thing to do if they will now spend that remaining time without unnecessary fear and can accept visitors in their last days. Obviously lockdowns could make that futile. However if they are suffering neurodegenerative decline then it is entirely pointless.
