  2. I agree, how many of these recent data breaches were not the result of failing to follow basic and well known safety measures? None, they were all the result of very poor cyber security practices. The worst is that they are keeping data they do not need, they are not replacing data with checksums when possible, they are not using homomorphic encryption and processing methods, they are not using salted databases with triggers that take the DB offline if those salted records are accessed. etc. These companies should be hit with large penalties, they have no excuse for being so slack, but we know why they are, it costs more to run their systems in a disciplined manner.
