  2. They travel so fast that the front of them heats up and glows in the IR like a lighthouse, so they are not that hard to spot and take out, if you have the right countermeasures in place. At the moment they are shooting at women and children in their homes who are unprotected so they look "effective" but the Israeli iron dome system or similar would neutralize many such missiles. The Russians are taking a big risk in using them against civilians as they are subjecting their most advance tech to analysys when the benefit from using them is very low, rather than just holding the capability back to use at a decisive point in a military vs military battle.
