And that was just a tiny little volcanic eruption as far as they go, but a good reminder that you don't see them coming and a really big one will drop the entire Earth into a continuous winter for several years. Long enough for most people to run out of food because the crops will not grow. Imagine if you also run your civilisation on solar panels and there is not enough light, game over.
