Perhaps we need to move away from these primitive and ritualistic aspects of our culture and not pretend that any day of the year is special? If people want time off then they can negotiate that with employers. With digital technology it is not hard to have employers run a real time auction for required hours of work for each position, then the market can supply demand at a cost that reflects actual supply. i.e. If more people want to work on a given day the hourly rate drops as people underbid each other for the work, but for hours and days that are unpopular the hourly rate goes up.

@Aaronwhatnow Go over to wikipedia and look up all of the Australian MPs ever convicted of criminal offences, you will find that 100% of the ones who committed crimes against children started off in the Labor party. Go on, go and choke on those facts and good luck trying to explain that massive correlation away because it isn't even close to the random distribution one would expect.
