  1. The birth rate in China is low but that figure also hides something else even more sinister, they have been selectively aborting female children in favour of sons. This has been known about for a long time too. See the January 8, 1985 Washington Post article by Michael Weisskopf "China's Birth Control Policy Drives Some to Kill Baby Girls" .
