  1. A jet engine is one big fire because that is how it works burn fuel and compressed air to make expanding gasses that drive the rear end of the turbine to compress more air with the front end of the turbine. From the video that is what it looks like, a turbine failure, and it is a miracle of modern engineering that something that big, that is spinning that fast, rarely does fail and that those failures are usually not catastrophic.

  2.  @axle.australian.patriot  Jets in particular have benefited from a continuous and very aggressive arms race in military aviation. I see the RAAF aircraft flying past my house most weekdays and sometimes they spend an entire week practicing for airshows directly in front of my house. I know exactly how they work and can visualise the machines as cutaways etc. but they still leave me in awe as much as they did when I was a child. My father actually started the Point Cook air shows that eventually expanded to the Avalon Airshow.
