If you are going to die in the next week and you catch covid it will compress the timescale but not change the outcome. It is a matter of recorded fact that some Indian cities and states have released all-cause mortality data which paints a complex picture that counters the alarmism. Kerala released its state-wide all-cause mortality data in February, which showed that the state, despite accounting for the second highest number of COVID-19 infections in India, recorded over 16,000 fewer deaths in 2020 compared to the average of the previous five years.

Yes this is a major set of avoidable factors associated with covid-19 mortality and it is perplexing that it can be so well known yet the world's governments have failed over the last 12 months to implement major spending programs to address those preventable factors associated with sub optimal diets and lifestyles. Some may say that it is more than perplexing, it is downright suspicious given that such action would be a guaranteed win-win as healthier people put less of a burden on the health system even in a "normal" year.
