@stubones Stubones, I've read your comments on many topics and I agree with a lot of your views. you are a switched on, intelligent person. Surely you can see that while the USA/UK are responsible for giving some Afghani's a twenty year window of false security, you can't just ignore or alter a whole tribal culture in that space of time? History shows that. The British tried pre WW1, the Soviets tried in the eighties and the Anglo American alliance had a measure of success but ancient, deep rooted tribalism is a state of mind and the Taliban don't see the need to change and it could be argued, why should they? Isn't imposing Western values on them a little arrogant? Added to which, the notion that Blair and Bush acted altruistically is a more than a bit naive. It was a cosy, touchy/feely argument that attempted to ameliorate western opposition to what was really going on.
