Didn't you watch that video? All of that is pointless fluff. All that matters is productivity. If they aren't a functional unit in the economy, then they have no value. At least, that's what the video seemed to be saying.

@LegendaryZet The objective of UBI is "better quality of life for humans." What's the point of people working when businesses have no need for human labor?
22
"Ew, leisure."

It can work, it just requires corporations be required to fund it.

So the people who got the money led more happy lives rather than worrying about making ends meet? How terrible. If only quality of life had as much value as "capital worth." After all, at the end of the day, when they put you in the ground, what matters more, that you enjoyed your life, or that you ended with a lot of money in the bank? The point is that we're going to need a plan once human labor no longer has any value, and humans can no longer be weighed based on productivity.

@SuppressedOfficial No,m spoken like someone who understand more about math and economics than someone who believes that prices are determined directly by wages, somehow.
3
@ColonelSanders17 But what if there's nothing you can do that would make you substantially more productive?
2
@OptimalOwl The data didn't ask whether the people felt that the activities they were pursuing were valuable. I gather from your comment that you do not find their activities valuable, but why should your opinion matter to others?
2
@OptimalOwl But the point is, "it failed to do things that are not relevant" isn't particularly useful data. I doubt it cured any cancer while it was at it either, why bring it up?

I think a UBI needs to be paired with strong insurance mechanisms. Most people are terrible at budgeting and saving for a rainy day, so don't expect them to. Pay them an amount per month that is basically what they should expect to spend that month, but than also have money available in case they hit an unexpected snag and need a bit more.
2
@prime-mate It's not the AI that we need to worry about, it's the humans that own the AI.
2
@ColonelSanders17 Ok, but nobody will pay you to do that thing you want to do, because they can get that same labor for free. So then what do you do?
1
@ColonelSanders17 Well what service do you got? I guarantee a machine will be able to do it better and cheaper than a living wage within the next few decades.
1
@stevepest4143 I did, I disagree with it though.
1
@Schrodinger_ I was reading between the lines.
1
@TheThreatenedSwan So?
1
@SuppressedOfficial Not really. Prices are determined by the cost of labor. When labor is irrelevant to those prices, they stay low.
