  5. The was proven guilty of insurrection during this trial, the Judge found that. There is no need for a guilty verdict for the 14th amendment to apply though, it does not say anything in there about there being an indictment or verdict first.

Again, parents have no ride to control what books other parents' kids have access too. They can tell their kids to not read certain books, but they should not be able to keep them out of libraries just because they object to the contents.

The current wave of Republican book bannings was targeting books that were appropriate for children, but contained LGBT content, or content about white supremacy that made certain snowflakes feel bad. There was no justification for that.

As their secretary of state said, the Constitution also bars people running for president if they were not born in the US, so it would also be against the law to have Arnold Schwarzenegger on the ballot.

WWII happened "because of one man," and we spent the next 50 years discussing "when should we have acted to prevent that?" Then we've spent the last five years debating "well, that wasn't so bad, was it?"

  27.  @farvasstache6532  If it is a public school then it is also a public library. Again, you have no rights to decide what books are available to other parents' children. Also, your "tsking" is misplaced. A parent that tries to get books banned is not "involved in their children's lives," they are just trying to get OTHER people to do that work FOR them. It's like parents that set their children in front of a TV all day, and then demand that the TV not broadcast anything that they do not approve of. And finally, much of the material that has been targeted in red states is not "overtly sexual," it is just material that is no more "sexual" than material that has been on those shelves for decades already, and just happens to involve age appropriate discussions of LGBT relationships, such as a child having two moms. What material does contain sexual content is no different than other sex-ed resources available at the middle school and up level, which can be important for pubescent teens trying to figure out what their deal is. Again, if you don't want your children reading such things, tell them not to. It should not be the school library's job to police that.

  42.  @johnroush237  Except that the 14th amendment supersedes that. It was used during the time of its writing to bar people form office who had never been convicted of violating their oaths. It is not a penalty that requires a conviction.

  43.  @Haterator  It has for the purposes of this decision though. The 14th amendment does not at any point involve a conviction, and nobody that has been applied to it in the past was convicted of anything. I don't know where Trump supporters got the idea that a conviction was involved here.

I'll wait. In the meantime, I'll continue to use the definition of "public" that I was using, as in "owned and operated by the public," which applies to school libraries. And again, you do have control over what your children are exposed to, but not over what material is added to a school library. If you don't want them to read material in the school library, tell them not to. That is the full extent of your reach.
