We aren't sending them to help Lebanon.
8
People have been complaining about gas prices though.
7
We have plenty of air defense systems back home. Having them tested abroad means that they are stronger should we ever need them.
6
That's the thing about democracies, sometimes other people overrule what you want.
6
No their aren't. Everyone in the hurricane areas is receiving help from the US government right now. The only people who aren't are those choosing not to.
5
@Chad-ui5cv I'm sorry that the facts don't care about your feelings. That must be hard. . .
4
She was right when she said that. That happened in the past, and things have changed since then. Such is time.
4
Biden also sent billions to help the hurricane areas. The US president needs to be able to handle multiple problems at once.
4
@seanmarkham6965 Oh, no, I'm not maga.
3
@thewho6749 The priority is US citizens, but we also have other things to do. We can't ignore the rest of the world, because the rest of the world won't ignore us.
3
I have a theory on all of this. We know that poll weigh the raw results to offset various biases in the polling. I think that they are intentionally skewing the results to be as close to 50/50 as possible, because they're tired of people claiming that they were wrong if they definitively name one candidate or the other. If they don't pick a side, then whoever wins they can go "see, it was within our margin of error."
2
@Alive120P And we're handling all that too. We cam walk and chew gum at the same time. I mean, do you think gas prices would be better if we were not supporting our allies right now? Lol.
1
@thecoolestofthe834s2 Yeah, that would be bad, if that's what was happening. Instead, the people in those regions are getting tons of food and water and other emergency relief, and over the following months will get thousands each in assistance for rebuilding, not to mention the millions that will be spent on rebuilding infrastructure.
1
@AWholeTuesday I'm not aware of that one.
1
@nothanks9503 Maybe, but the point is, if we just completely ignore the middle east, then gas prices would go way up. So long as the US has an oil-based economy, we need to work to maintain stability in the region.
1
@recabitejehonadab2654 And that was true when she said it. Nobody can predict the future.
1
@larrybird8619 So you're saying America's enemies would raise gas prices unless their puppet gets reinstalled?
1
@happybike3823 Because America is more oil based than most, since we have a much broader country that has far less rail transport. Also, the US has chosen to shoulder a larger proportion of the world's defense needs, because this allows us to get away with all sorts of other financial shenanigans. If not for the US army, we'd be the UK right now.
1
@nothanks9503 Oh? So you think that a significant rise in oil prices would not have a negative impact on the US economy?
1
@RizzleyBearRobins This isn't an outcome, it's only a step in the process.
1
@happybike3823 There's no authority needed to be the world's defense. We just are. Also, the US cannot supply its own oil, at least not in a capitalist system. The US already exports more oil than at any time in US history, but the price of oil is determined by the global oil price, because if someone else is willing to pay more than American consumers, the oil companies will sell to them instead. The only way that US oil could be completely independent of other countries (for a couple decades, at least) would be to fully nationalize US oil production, and make it illegal to sell any of it abroad, so that US oil producers would have no option but to sell it to US customers at whatever rate they could get. I really don't think that's a realistic outcome though.

@nothanks9503 For as many years as we've got.
1
They are defending our borders, by making sure that our enemies don't get anywhere near them. Would you rather they defend our borders like Ukraine and Israel do, where civilians get caught in the crossfire?
1
They are defending our borders, just at a distance.
1
@yehimstone5492 Harris is not involved in the border, and never was.
1
@gdc3084 Like Iraq and Afghanistan?
1
@elitekoru6661 We're sending the aid to help Israel, our ally, regardless of who is in charge at the moment. If the rest of the world had cut us off when Trump took office, it would have left a lot of innocent Americans, the majority of which did not vote for him, in the lurch.
1
@elitekoru6661 Nope.
1
@annmariedeignan2596 We don't have a direct democracy, that would be far too inefficient to manage such a large country. We have a representative democracy, which means that the people vote for others to represent their interests in government, and the majority of people voted for the representatives that support these actions. The citizens get a vote in issues regarding war by electing candidates that reflect their positions on war.
1
@carsonhunt4642 That's more because people tend to be too irresponsible to vote directly on issues of money. They will vote to lower their own taxes, while also voting to keep all the benefits those taxes pay for. This is why we instead vote for representatives, who will (generally) weigh the benefits vs the costs and determine which actions are worth doing.
1
@annmariedeignan2596 There are people out there who do not believe that their views are represented in the government, and they believe that this means that the system is broken, rather than accepting that their fellow citizens have disagreed with them.
