Actually, no, the second amendment had nothing to do with arming the populous for the purposes of insurrection. The same people who wrote the constitution PUT DOWN an armed insurrection a few years later. The purpose of the second amendment is because the US did not, at the time, have a standing national army, so they wanted citizens prepared to act as an organized militia force to defend the country from external threats in times of need. That's it. It was not about personal home defense, and it certainly wasn't about the people being armed so that they could rise up against their own government. Period.
