  18. The problem is that only a portion of congress is not representing us, roughly 220 members of the House and as many as 49 in the Senate. You can't only cut their salaries, you would have to cut other ones, which punishes the responsible members just as much as the irresponsible ones.

Look into the case in which Trump's lawyers were sanctioned because it turned out all the "affidavits" they tried to pass off as "evidence" were full of nonsense and they could not provide any actual evidence to back any of it up.

  33.  @jthomas7904  But we passed a budget earlier. You can argue that we did it wrong, and that might be true, but the fact remains that right now, the debt ceiling is the problem. If we're going to do anything about the budget, it needs to come during the 2024 budgeting process, and has nothing to do with the debt ceiling discussion.

All vote counts are done according to state and in some cases local election policies, and if they even use voting machines, they buy whichever ones they want, often the lowest bidder. Some are made in the US, some in other places. Dominion machines were only used in a handful of elections, none of them particularly consequential to the outcomes, but it is a hilarious story that MAGA people invented about them.

  39.  @ClockworkGearhead  It is strictly the other team's fault, but people are to dumb to understand that, so it will just be blamed on him as "the guy in charge when it happened." Too many people view the office of the president as some sort of "wizard" that can just magically control what does and does not happen in the world, rather than just one role in the government that has to handle problems using a limited set of tools as best he can. A debt default would hurt everyone, It would be idiotic to allow one to happen, but unfortunately, the idiots currently hold the house majority.

There are plenty of countries with debts 2-3 times higher than the US relative to their GDP that are perfectly stable. Debt like that is only really a burden to smaller, weaker countries that can't ignore their way past it. Most Us homeowners have debts MUCH higher than the US national debt relative to their own income. It's fine.
