Yeah, I think that the worst "bad faith" arguments people make against electric vehicles are "there is this edge case in which an EV is not as good as a gasoline car," and yeah, that will be true. There are still cases where a horse is a better choice than a car. That does not mean that most people should be riding horses most of the time.

While it wouldn't be good for long distances right this minute, the easy assumption is that charging resources will drastically improve over the next ten years, and by the time you are guaranteed to find charging anywhere you look for it, I see this as working quite well for long hauls. Charging cycles should match up pretty well with rest stops drivers would be taking anyway, so you would say drive for 4-5 hours, take a lunch break that would allow you to charge up a bit, drive another 4-5 hours and take a sleep break while it charges to full, repeat.
