  1. America does have plenty of quality break makers out there, he was just talking about the more mass produced stuff. One of my local grocery stores has some bread that is as good as anything I had in France, it's just in the bakery section, not the "bread aisle" with the mass produced sandwich loaves. The weirdest thing though is that they sell something called a "baguette," that is nothing like a french baguette, with a very firm, spongy interior, but they also sell "French Bread," which is more like a traditional French baguette.

  2. What I don't get is, why do people act like America taking over America is some huge deal, while that is also how every other country in world history took over their own countries too? Like France is what France is because of thousands of years of wars back and forth with neighbors, in which they conquered and were conquered. One country moves in, conquers their neighbor, and claims their land as their own, it's just how it worked for thousands of years. The way the US did it was just more peaceful than other methods, using money instead of violence, unless the conquered peoples chose violence. I mean, hell, if the indigenous Americans wanted their neighbor's lands, they wouldn't even offer them any money for it, they would just slaughter the people who lived there and claim it. National borders didn't even begin to stabilize until around WWII, when the nations of the world decided "ok, we can't keep doing this, let's just stick to the borders we've got here."

  4. The modern methods of bread making are different, but they are not less healthy than the "more traditional" methods. Just because something has been done for thousands of years does not mean that those methods are better than one invented a few years ago. People have been running for hundreds of thousands of years, and yet speed records are being set every year by more modern training and equipment methods. Science is a good thing, not a bad thing. That said, yeah, a mass produced, long shelf life bread is not optimized for peak taste, so it isn't likely to be as good for casual eating as a fresh baked artisan bread. Duh. But there is a cost to that, so buy the artisan bread if that's what you want, or buy the mass produced stuff if that's fine for your purposes. Why the bread shaming?

  6.  @henrylivingstone2971  Yeah, you need an audience for your products. Americans on average just don't care that much, they aren't going to go out of their way to visit a bakery every day, or even necessarily once a week, so it's hard for a baker to produce enough volume to be viable if they aren't in a very concentrated area.
