If it ever did, then you wouldn't need any laws specifically targeting drag performances, there are plenty of existing laws against lewd behavior around children that already cover that. All THIS law said was that perfectly acceptable behavior would no longer be acceptable if the performer were in drag at the time. It had nothing to do about preventing lewd behavior.

  6. You don't seem to know what a drag show is. No, it is not a burlesque show. There can be burlesque versions of it, but that's like saying that kids can't attend "dance shows" because strippers are dancers, or that they can't attend "music performances" because some heavy metal bands are pretty mature. Nobody is in favor of children attending shows in which lewd behavior is taking place, but the types of drag shows that take place for all-ages audiences involve nothing lewd or inappropriate.

I think you're thinking of "strip shows" or something, which is an entirely different type of performance and would not be covered by the law in question. There's nothing wrong with children watching adults dancing around. Performers like the The Wiggles, or the Teletubbies, or various other performers over the years. Why would drag shows be treated differently? There is nothing disruptive to children's "psychology" about watching a drag show. What is disruptive to them is having shootings at their school in which they or their friends die, so maybe we should be more focused on reducing those?

  8. Yes, clearly you are confused, but the answer to that is never ot ban it, it's for you to educate yourself and become no longer confused by it. "Why would you be around children? Because those children and their parents enjoy the show and want to be there, same as with any other performance. There's no reason not to. Do the children know it's "dress up?" Maybe, maybe not. Do they know that Barney is not actually a Dinosaur? Maybe, maybe not. They are fine either way. There is nothing "anti-innocence" about any of this, no children are harmed by attending an all-ages drag performance, any more than a child is harmed by attending an all-ages ballet or jazz or Bible school performance.

Each new generation is BETTER than the one that came before it, but in ways that the previous generation does not understand, and so seems "weird." Some people are good at adapting to change, and work to understand younger generations, others lack the mental capacity to grow and adapt, so they insist that younger generations conform to the same culture that they grew up with. Of course that only leads to stagnation and eventually death. There is no "decline" taking place here, unless you refer to MAGA.

Obviously not. Passing a law that says that you can't do something without any good reason for it makes it a lot harder to do. I definitely agree that too many adults are trying to "project" onto their children what is ok rather than considering that one day, your kid may disclose to you how your "decisions" may have impacted them in a negative way when it wasn't "intended". That is what led them to make this law, and what it's supporters are doing. That's why it was a good thing that the law was rejected.

Each generation is actually smarter than the generation before it, we are just using a wider sampling group than we used to use, so it's picking up more low-achieving students than used to be counted at all, which can drive down certain averages. A "drag" performance is a dance performance in which the performers dress in exagerated feminine fashions. There is nothing "sexual" about that, but it is a descriptive term, similar to "ballet," or "tap dancing," and is used so that audiences know what to expect. You choosing to insist that there is something "sexual" about it does not make it true. There is no "stripping" going on, at least not in any performances that would involve children. They put ON clothes, not take them off.

  42.  @michaelkennedy6415  I find that conservatives tend to enjoy "debate" formats, and value their outcomes, but generally, any debate between a "liberal" and a "conservative" just degrade into bullying tactics on the part of the conservative, in which they shout down their opponents and use logical fallacies to give the illusion of strength, and therefore are declared "the winner" by conservative audiences that value strongmen over intellectual honesty. Public debate is just a poor format for finding the actual truth of an argument. One thing I've long wished for is a "truth debate," one not based on throwing ammunition at the other side as rapidly as possible until the time runs out, and instead one with the format that each side has a team of knowledgeable people, each time a question is posed they are given time and access to materials to research the question fully and form a counter argument, and then these counter arguments are read dispassionately by a moderator, rather than being delivered as a rhetorical flourish. The goal would not be to determine who is the better master debater, but who has the most valid POSITION.

  53.  @missourivalleyarms4264  Democrats did not "sneak in" anything, that spending had been part of the bill for over a month already, Toomey had been publicly arguing against it for over a month, but other Republicans had not indicated that they would vote against the bill until the voting actually started. The spending in the bill is a good thing, because it prevents later congresses from leeching the funding out of the programs the bill is designed to support, as they often do with other bills. The gaslightling came entirely from Republicans trying to claim that they had a principled objection here.

  54.  @DuffyF56  The things that Republicans wanted removed had been a part of the bill for a month already, and they did not indicate that they were going to vote against it until the vote was taking place. It is not bad legislation, it only ensures that future congresses won't leech the funding out of the bill, rendering it useless, as they often do. It is unlikely that anything will be removed when they bring it up for a second vote, but it will likely still pass, because the Republicans played their games already and there would be no point to stringing it out further.

And again, if three parents got arrested for protesting outside of a school, it had nothing to do with the content of their protesting, it was because of the way they were behaving during those protests. Nobody can take from that "well maybe they had a point." And again, NO children are "forced" to watch a drag show, the parents always have the choice to exclude their children form those activities. I remember back when I was in school there were parents who didn't want their kids doing Halloween stuff, that's fine. Now what IS taking away parents' authority over their own kids is if someone makes a bill that prevents ANYONE'S children from seeing content that they don't approve of. You can control what your child see,s but that gives you NO right to control what OTHER parents decide for THEIR children.
