Even if it does work, russia can simply decided not to sell (As Medvedev had said) which will create supply shortage due to buyer hogging to the same overcrowded source of oil, pushing global oil price possibly twice or thrice of today's price. By that point russia would simply sell through a third party and profit greatly due to absurd market prices. And it's all the collective west's doing.
