  4. The west wants food but doesn't want to lift sanctions. At first russia had no problems with it, but then they realized even if they don't sanction the food shipment itself, the sanctions of the payment system means that russia can't get paid for the wheat it sells. So at this point, russia can either export it for free, or keep it in port. Russia chose the latter because that is the sensible thing from an economic perspective. It's not a free grain, they grow it with fertilizer, time, workers, and machines. That costs a lot. The UN is still complaining about this but never willing to talk about the main issue when the crisis was brought to the world by them.

  5. There was an official back in the 80s or 90s who said the US should, at all cost, prevent the alliance between russia and china. Now, nato has rejected the soviet proposal to join nato in the past, but russia, for many years since the statement, has actively sought to be part of europe and its economy. Instead of accepting russia and letting it be part of western sphere, the west repeatedly antagonizes russia and its people, all the while accepting its resources at a discount. After all, hegemony is not about friendship or alliance, it's about submission. This is the result. And now the same idiotic and recist policy makers who caused it are now upset at the outcome.

  6.  @gregbors8364  the context here is that the US had no treaty to protect ukr. So it had no obligation to do so. And when the government cares more about a corrupt foreign nation than its own, it's problematic. Caring is pushing for a peaceful solution, not arming them.

  7. imagine going to ukraine to be a foreign fighters to defend democracy, have your passport seized, forced to sign a 1 year contract to fight for them free of charge, sent to the front line as cannon fodders, lose limbs and having to ask government's help to go back, return home battered and broken only to find out that ukraine has become an authoritarian state.

  15. As long as apple products are considered luxury items, people would keep buying. To some people, owning an iphone is a symbol of status. And unfortunately, there are no competitor products which fill the same niche, so they have all the monopoly over it. The only thing that can hurt their sales is something like the current inflation crisis which hurts their sales quite a bit that they have to tone down production. And even if people in the US stopped buying, the people outside the US will since they have no political factor to boycott the product. The only way to hurt the company is through legal action. Also desantis comment on apple siding with the CPC is actually true, because the operation of iphone factory in china on which they are paying the employees peanuts, faces no legal issue because the CPC protects the operation.

  17. anything he said is ambiguous. it's intentional, so that it wouldn't cause diplomatic issues. his words usually goes like "if a hostile countries continue interfering on X, our response will be swift".... which "hostile country"? what sort of "response"? it's ambiguous. and if you interpret it as an attack on the US using a nuke, then that's on you. a good analogy for this is that if i promise to give you something, and you expected a brand new car, that's on you for wishing for too much, when i only plan to give you a watch, or just some praise.

The elderly today were the spoiled child of a rich businessman/politicians whose rise to power is due to family connection. They live a comfortable life, don't go through hardship and are pretty out of touch and self-serving.

You may debate about the reason someone bought an iphone, be it for it's status or for the simple reason that they liked it or simply too used to it to switch. But there is no debate that it is amongst the priciest phones on the market and people choose it for its exclusivity. Many that cant afford it would choose a cheap chinese android brand like xiaomi or realme which cost less than 20% of an iphone price but still has the same hardware capabilities, so the majority of people that buy it do choose it for it's status, because there are tons of alternatives that has better hardware and cost way less.

There's another commenter that says that iphone is not a "luxury products because everybody owns it" which is a weird statement because lots of people own ferrari or lambo but that does not make it any less of a luxury item. But he either deleted his comment, or it got hidden. I'm just pointing out that iphone pricing is what makes it a luxury item because there are many similar products that offer relatively similar or better capabilities in some aspects but cost way less.

  34. the package aid is basically a financial lending/debt to that one country, it's not free money. who owns and profits off these debts? the IMF and world bank ofc. and these bankers would reward whoever provides them with these debt greatly. you know, like the biden administration for example. these people's are running the country for their own profit, not for the welfare of it's citizen. it's very apparent in their attempts to be always perceived as "the good guys" in every scenario, including being woke. a true president don't concern themselves over such trivial matter.
