  2.  @jackiegoodspeed1849  it's because they came lived through a hard times and wished no one had to live like they were. The elderly today were the spoiled child of a rich businessman/politicians whose rise to power is due to family connection. They live a comfortable life, don't go through hardship and are pretty out of touch and self-serving.
