Right what they did just made some other person's day harder. And they didn't gain anything for it.

well to be fair van gough was a middling artist. He's not all that important to the art world and there is a lot of paintings there that are much much better. So the only value of that painting at this point is just what people think it's worth.

I'm all about environmentalism. But you have to pick your battles and van gough had literally nothing to do with the climate crisis. If they poured soup on the ranking politician that denies climate change that would be different.

@jontomas2271 in his life he sold 3 paintings and a sketch for a total of 1000 dollars in our money. the only thing that made him unique is cutting off his ear. I'm not saying this to disparage him or anyone else just to give some facts.

@keithgreenan7300 he did abstraction pieces which is fine and personally I prefer it but lets look at his most famous painting. The stars. There was no uniformity to them none of the stars looked alike. Most classics like the belle de jardaine. has the 3 subjects perfectly centered and the ground behind them goes down to up from left to right to contrast the subjects. Stars had none of that.

@rebeccalaff853 those 2 words mean the same thing. It's not real (I.E. cambells soup can by warhol) That was different from reality but still real representational isn't about realism it's about the feeling. Abstract means pretty much the same thing.

@rebeccalaff853 tell me this? What did gough do that a thousand other artists didn't do before him. In his day he was called mediocre and not inspiring. His paintings only sold when he was dead.

@keithgreenan7300 but when it came to technique use of colour and space stars still wasn't all that impressive. Again I'm not saying all these things to shit on him and I think the defaming of his painting was horrible. But lets not hold a man up as a god who's biggest credit in his life was cutting off his ear.
