  1. This is why I do not understand why people think a pension is so great. 90% of ownership is possession. You possess the assets in your 401K or IRA. You do not possess the assets to a pension. It is merely a promise to pay. The assets are the same ones you would invest in a 401k or mutual fund within an IRA. The only difference is the pensioner pays more management fees.
