  2. The holy grail is to do this with waste water. Evaporation means harmful chemicals also get left behind unlike reverse osmosis.

  3. No mining is not entirely accurate. Plastic polymers are derived from petroleum or natural gas. Polymer batteries would still be subject to petroleum and natural gas market pricing. Besides cost, the reason we do not use recycled plastics is because the polymer chains are cut with each successive chopping, melting and reforming. It reduces the strength of the polymer. A battery that requires polymer chains to store energy would not be able to use much recycled plastics other than the non critical areas like its labels.
