  1. Exactly. European Russia is where the power is. Even Moscow cares little about the Russian Far East except for resource and labor exploitation. NATO would sit back and watch the show while providing lip service on peace and call for negotiations.

  2. If I were China, I would seize the Russian Far East all the way to the Arctic and take control of the land all the way from the Urals to the Bering Strait. Arctic resources, Northern shipping route to Europe, and access to the Sea of Japan would be the end goal. To grease the international community, China should hand back the four Kuril islands to Japan with no strings attached so they will play nice with them and sign an agreement with the US for free flow of economic transit of the Bering Strait for all shipping to alleviate fears in Washington.
