  1. The 401K plan is much better than a pension. In a 401K, you have control and possession of your retirement. In a pension, an outside company not chosen by you has control and possession of your assets with a promise to pay in the future. The courts have ruled those pensions can be null and void in the event of a bankruptcy. Keep in mind a pension will invest in the SAME assets as a diversified 401K. SAME equity and debt instruments. The managing pension company will get to skim off the top each year. In no possible way is a pension better than a 401K by any stretch of the imagination.
