People need to understand extracting the salt is not the most expensive part of the process. It is the logistics of packing and distribution that costs a lot. The same applies for any resource extraction.

In a Congressional hearing, Sen. Romney asked how many N95 masks were needed and how many were in the stockpile. It was estimated we need 3 billion masks and the stockpile had 20 million. To put this number into perspective, China, which produces 60% of the world's masks, produced 20 million per day under normal conditions. For the stockpile to have 3 billion masks is to have 16% of the planet's annual output in storage and replenished every 2 - 3 years. It is an unfathomable amount prior to this pandemic.

We use grass as a means to control erosion. If you have bare dirt, your top soil washes away during heavy rains. You also can not play on gravel or prairie grasses. Concrete reflects too much heat. If you regularly enjoy being outdoors in the back yard or have pets that use it daily, it makes no sense to remove a lawn.
