This idea was perfectly reasonable. The only issue was the hybrid was ahead of the materials science. Sirorsky tried a hybrid called the X wing and it worked fine.

An ekranoplane for Trans Pacific or Trans Atlantic routes makes the most sense. It takes much less gas to fly tens of feet above the water.

It is probably a WW1 leftover. The design is so flawed the testers probably figured it out during testing and abandoned the project. This would explain the lack of documentation and the similarity of design to the era.

The Mig 1.44 was reborn as the Chinese J20.
43
I have no doubt the J-35 can match a Mig. But I highly doubt the J-35 is as stealthy as the F-35 and probably has worse reliability as the weakness of all of China's fighters is their inability to manufacture comparable engines to Russia or America.

I can see ekranoplanes for cargo to make it cheaper than air, but with the speed of air travel. I never understood why it did not catch on using new and exclusive cargo routes by sea.

From a safety standpoint and mechanical simplicity, the Defiant X would be best. For range and speed, the Valor is the best choice. It really comes down to which priorities the military wants to focus on.
5
The multiple engine design is ingenious. The German Dornier VTOL also used the same philosophy.
5
So this is the Russian version of the Korean Boramae.
5
So do we have retired B52s that can build this thing today?
4
I can see an increase in chronic brain damage for the crew from the ups and downs.
3
This hybrid gyroplane design should be reexamined with modern materials. Imagine the Osprey internals with use with this design.
3
I swear this looks something thought up by Hasbro for GI Joe.
3
Japan could take the cues from the X32 with a second engine and remove vtol for their desired fighter. A larger weapons bay would give their armed forces a significant advantage over rivals.
2
This thing looks more realistic than the Landkrauzer the Germans designed. However, I doubt this thing would move through the Russian plains with such weight.
2
Basically the Soviet F-15.
2
This thing would have made an excellent cargo carrier. Imagine 1/3 of a cargo vessel from Japan to Los Angeles in 10 hours at the cost of an air freight plane.
2
The real life Macross SV-262.
2
Basically the Israelis made an F36 Kingsnake. It looks so similar to an F16 I would not be surprised if it could bolt on F16 mods if it were in production like the conformal fuel tanks.
2
If we can get a pure fusion bomb created, project Orion would be viable.
2
The double rotor is more efficient and safer in function. Mechanically, the KA 52 is fine. It is the electronics that are insufficient and the Russians misusing this helicopter in Ukraine resulting in their perceived failure.
2
@AaronShenghao There were reports out of Russia that China paid $500m to Mikoyan for their expertise on the development of the J20 as consultants.
2
The gas turbine idea is not crazy. The Abrams has one and it is very fuel efficient for its job of propelling a giant brick. Mate that to a generator like a locomotive and it might work.
1
Boeing version of the Super Guppy.
1
From a resource standpoint, this is pretty efficient for surgical Strikes. The biggest problem is the lack of supply lines for fuel and ammo.
1
This plan might have worked if they targeted the West Coast and had an extra plane carrying only fuel to do aerial refueling.
1
Imagine how much titanium the US would have to acquire from the USSR for 93 planes. Also how much jet fuel would be leaking on the tarmac.
1
This thing is a suicide Jumper's wet dream.
1
This thing is a real life Macross VF-4.
1
The passenger compartment is a giant air ram on this flying engine.
1
I am surprised canards are being used in the 6th gen fighter. I thought the Air Force said that feature reduced RCS.
1
Looks like the Antonov transport.
1
A ring wing would be fine for large drones. They are fly by wire anyways, less risk to humans.
1
Imaginary aircraft are as stealthy as It gets.
1
The SU57 is what the YF23 evolved would look like IMO.
