  5.  @TheOneWhoGnocchs  Refineries have to be set up to accept the different grades of oil. It can not make the switch overnight. Refineries in the Gulf Coast accepts the sour crude from the Canadian Tar sands or any equivalent. The Texas sweet light crude is exported. Whatever grade of oil that Venezuela produces can really only go to a few places so competition is negligible.

  6. Here is a thought: green energy with its focus on wind and solar was BS from the start. We need to use every energy source available depending on the geography. Solar in sunny plances like California, wind in Texas, geothermal in Hawaii, keep the natural gas flowing, build out more nuclear and even consider garbage incineration like Singapore and Japan. Putting solar in clouldy places like Germany is a net energy negative.

The irony is Venezuela still sits on trillions of barrels of oil that it can not tap because they kicked out all of the foreign companies with the expertise and neglected its existing oil infrastructure.
