  1. To my mind, the ‘national trust’ has been dreadful for decades. My younger brother and myself (and late parents) had been keen supporters from the early 70s, travelling everywhere and supporting events. Our patience was gradually stretched to the limit by some truly dreadful displays that ‘looked nice’, but were aimed at IQs in the lower octile. Finally, the absolute limit came when millions of hard earned members’ money was thrown away on Tyntesfield. There was, if I remember, a documentary on TV concerning the schism created by such an outrageous purchase. The National Heritage Memorial Fund gave £17,400,000 alone, while members were asked to contribute vast sums to restore the place. From that date, my brother and I have never bothered with the organisation. It cannot recover the damage to its initial, founding principles by the squandering of such unbelievable sums. (more details are available online) It is of no surprise that unpatriotic employees abound. Personally, I would sack the lot and start again. Intelligent people (I hope I’m one) do NOT need woke type guides and infantile displays for childish visitors.
