I applaud Tom and Haley in their aims and objectives. I’m a postwar child (1948) and I and my younger brother benefitted from wonderful parents who wished us to have the best education possible. One might argue a different curriculum based on one’s beliefs, I am a retired scientist and atheist, so would be wary of overemphasis of Christianity, but would see the history of Judeo-Christian ethics and morality essential. The Sunday School movement was mentioned indirectly, a great springboard for children in the Industrial revolution and catalyst for towns and wealthy benefactors to enhance the local grammar schools of early foundation (my public school was founded in 1516). I worked in various parts of education and know that young children, not all - I’m a realist - love to learn and love to enquire, given a basic framework on which to develop their analytical ability. 👍🇬🇧👍🇮🇱👍🇬🇧👍🇮🇱👍🇬🇧👍

I have just looked at the school’s video and it promted me to say (not boast - simply ‘say’) that I and my brother were treated wonderfully by mum and dad and encouraged to play and learn before we went to primary school. My dad was baffled by teachers’ complaints about my fidgeting and minor disturbance in class. Even in 1953, classes were so big that teachers aimed at the lowest common denominator (rather like ‘comprehensive schools years later) and in my first year (so I was told by mum and dad years later) I hated lessons where the alphabet was taught using a stick to point to letters on the blackboard; ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ etc., pronounced ‘ah’, ‘bugh’, ‘kugh’ and so on. Why? because I could read the local newspaper and many children’s books BEFORE I went to primary school.
