Oh dear!
As an atheist I’m puzzled at the implicit dichotomy of, not partisan politics, but partisan beliefs.
I don’t fully share the reasoning behind your arguments in this matter, Peter, even though you have the best of intentions.
Of course one accepts the underlying morality and true principles of civilisation, that only loyal patriots are capable of, and the profound influence of Judeo-Christian ethics that have been fundamental to our nation’s development.
I have many views on various religions - too many to share here, save a view common to many of us who may not have the same religious beliefs, but have a belief in common decency and morality. To many of us, the failure of the religious side of society is, in a major part, entirely due to catastrophic lack of ‘governmental’ control.
As for visiting pubs, well, even though I live in a middle class area of Bolton, the pubs in my area have reduced from five to one. I tried it some years ago and it had dreadful TV on with football in one room, loud, canned ‘music’ in all the others, vulgar types everywhere, smelly toilets, dreadful beer and indifferent staff - oh! and the place was grubby. I don’t miss that type of pub.
My type of pub does exist, but there never were such idyllic ones aplenty.
