  1. Pilots don't fly "horizontal", they fly at a constant altitude. And the line of constant altitude is a curve that follows Earth's surface, so every airplane flies in a curved trajectory.

Anyone can watch a ship go over the horizon, and disappear from the bottom up. The obstacle behind which the ship disappears is Earth's curvature.
