I object to the use of the word 'theory'. In science, a fact is a simple, basic observation. A law is a statement (often a mathematical equation) about a relationship between facts and/or other laws. A theory explains "why" or "how" these facts and laws occur. Science starts with observations. These can yield facts. Scientists try to find an explanation for those observations, this becomes a model which includes laws. The model is tested using more observations or experiments. When the model holds up and makes accurate predictions, it becomes a theory. There are no observations that show Earth is flat. All of our observations show that Earth is a sphere. So anyone using the scientific method will not arrive at the conclusion that Earth is flat. Flat Earth is a model not supported by facts, therefore undeserving of the honorific 'theory'.

No, NASA does not claim that all photos of Earth are fake. We have millions of actual, real, photos of Earth from space, from many different sources. They all show the same: Earth is a sphere.

That is not commutative. Just because an opinion is ridiculed, does not mean it has to be truth.

We can observe the convexity of the water everywhere. When a ship goes over the horizon, it follows a convex path. When looking down at Earth from high altitude, it gets even more obvious. A geodetic survey of a path along a canal also shows that the path, and the canal along with it, is curved. So, we arrived at the conclusion that Earth is a sphere because our observations tell us that it is a sphere. We also know why Earth is a sphere. Gravity pulls all matter into spheres, at large scales: any object larger than 1000 km in diameter will get pulled into a sphere. This makes a flat planet a physical impossibility.

Simple experiments anyone can do prove that space is real. You profit from data and services provided by satellites every day.

@Amanlikeme "throwing people in jail for saying the earth was a sphere in the early 1600s" is a lie. You're thinking of Galileo, who was thrown in jail in the early 1600s for claiming that Earth was not the center of the solar system. We have known Earth is a sphere for 2500 years. The ancient Greeks were able to prove this.
2
Nope. we arrived at the conclusion that Earth must be a sphere by following the evidence. No invention necessary.

Simple experiments anyone can do prove that Earth is a rotating sphere. You can look up at night and see satellites pass overhead, proving that space is real. Simple measurements prove that Earth orbits the Sun, not the other way round. One petri dish is enough to demonstrate evolution in action. The Cavendish torsion balance proves that gravity is real. I.e. we arrived at each of these conclusions from measurements, experiments and observations.

@jaywatt4674 God made a universe that works according to well-defined physical laws we can discover, not a magical pancake that lies to us when we investigate it.

@dominiccharvet546 We have millions of photos of Earth from space. Start with Earthrise, a photo taken by the Apollo 8 crew. We have geostationary weather satellites (GOES, Meteosat, Himawari) that take images of the entire hemisphere every 10 minutes. A little farther out at the L1 point, we have DSCOVR, which takes photos of Earth and the Moon. For more detailed images, we have more than a hundred lower-altitude satellites like Landsat, SPOT, the Maxar constellation etc. that continuously photograph our planet.

@dominiccharvet546 The Hebrew word nasa means to lift up. Nasha means to deceive. The SH is one letter in Hebrew, and it's not the same as S.

@dominiccharvet546 Photos of Earth from space are *photos*, not paintings or CGI.

No, if it doesn't roll away, the ground beneath it is at a constant distance to the center of the planet, i.e. the surface is spherical.

@dominiccharvet546 The evidence says NASA has never lied to us.
