@sporkeh90 We're throwing away ~1000 tons of mostly aluminium in the form or rocket stages. On a total of 2 billion tons of waste, that's tiny. Some low-hanging fruit: 20 million tons of tobacco which ends up as ash (and used 10 million ha of arable land). 3000 containers (at 20 tons each) go overboard on container ships each year. Rocket stage reuse is still a very new technology (8 years). It'll take a while for everyone to develop new rockets.

The JWST blog has an article that explains why they haven't added deployment cameras to JWST.

We have much bigger fish to fry. One sinking ship will put more metal on the bottom of the ocean than all of the world's launches, for example.

plus or minus 50 km, more like. The ISS has enough atmospheric drag that over a year it'll lose several dozen km of altitude, so it is pushed into a higher orbit regularly by visiting spacecraft.

Take a look at the JWST blog for the reasons they haven't included cameras.
