Once the fuel is gone, it'll start drifting away from L2, and after a while it'll enter a normal heliocentric orbit which means it'll start lagging behind Earth, which starts to reduce communications bandwidth. Without fuel, attitude control will be lost at some point. As soon as the cold side is exposed to sunlight, the mission is over.

The animations are incorrect. Those mirrors are perfect. You can see that in video of the actual mirrors.

The big problem with railgun launch on Earth is the aerodynamics: you're bringing an object to supersonic speed in the densest layer of the atmosphere. That will rapidly heat the rocket, requiring a heavier structure.

Polar orbits are usually sun-synchronous, so they cover the entire Earth in 24 hours. IDK why the animation represents those orbits this way.

It's been sitting outside, getting thermal-cycled between +120 and -100 ÂșC every 14 days. The electronics are probably broken. Then there's cold welding, micrometeoroid impacts etc.
