SpaceX would have to add atomic clocks to each satellite, adding millions to the cost per satellite. It's unlikely they would do this for a service that does not provide revenue.

GPS works in the middle of the ocean, where there are no cell towers. GPS was designed to be used in war, so it had to work for US aircraft flying over the USSR, in a situation where you could guarantee the USSR would shut down any infrastructure that would help the enemy. A tiny bit of critical thought would have shown you the holes in your argument.

Handheld GPS devices do not contain a transmitter. A phone with GPS can transmit its location, but the phone company already knows where you are because it has to be able to send your data to the correct cell tower.

@magburner As I said, long before GPS was integrated into phones, the phone company knew where you are. It is an inevitable consequence of how a mobile phone system works.

You can see satellites pass overhead, even with the naked eye. With simple tools, you can triangulate their altitude and measure their speed. You will find that they are at altitudes of 200 km and up, far higher than any balloon can reach, and they move at 8 km/s, 100 times faster than any balloon has ever been. This demonstrates that space is real. You have been misled by charlatans who use big words like "second law of thermodynamics" in the hope you don't know enough about physics to see the holes in their argument. We have a dozen different ways to determine the shape of our planet. From simple observations of the horizon, to direct measurement of the curvature of Earth's surface (geodetic survey), to direct observation from high altitude, all these tell us the same: Earth is a sphere. The second law of thermodynamics is about the amount of energy you can extract from a closed system. It basically says you can't get more energy out of a system than has been put in.

Yes, NASA launches balloons. They launch half a dozen of those per year, to study the upper atmosphere. In addition, they launch lots and lots of satellites into Earth orbit and beyond, to do things you can't do in our atmosphere.

In order to use the military version, you'd have to know the code used to encrypt the signal.

Cell phones do use cell towers to help determine where they are, when available. This helps to get a position fix quickly without having to wait to download the entire ephemeris.

@flat-earther You should read the Antarctic Treaty sometime, it does not say that at all.
