A politician wouldn't be able to live in luxurious neighborhoods on their salaries from the government so that's why the majority of them sell out. It's like being angry at the prostitute for selling their own body for profit. A politician can easily turn down the money but other corrupt politicians won't want to work with them in order to get anything done.

Most politicians don't live anywhere near the ppl they supposedly represent but nobody wants to talk about that part. Every governor gets to live in a governor's mansion provided by the state that the tax payers pay for just like the president lives in the white house free of charge courtesy of the tax payers. Btw my prostitution analogy was spot on as you described it. Politicians and prostitutes are in the business of making money by offering services to their clients. Prostitutes and politicians have no loyalty to no one they follow the orders of the highest bidder.

My point was why didn't she just opt for a cheaper place to stay in the DC area rather than get the luxury apartment SHE said she couldn't afford?

Being progressive doesn't necessarily mean far left. Like I've said before ppl that live in certain districts want to keep their conservative representatives especially if they live in a predominantly red district.
