I'm from Italy. i got laid off 3 times in 3 years in warehouses jobs. COmpanies hire you with temp contracts, exploit the 1st year tax reduction, then they lay you off to get a new person and save on taxes. There's no jobs. It's not tre that we dont want to work. There's no one HIRING full time. And when you need to choose between getting exploited with a temp contract for 1000 eur/month OR stay at home unemployed and get 800/month + side hustles...guess what most people choose?

Manifacturing is mechanzied. They are leaving asia too. The problem is deeper. We dont NEED as many low skilled workers as before. We never will, you can't change history. The problem is: what do we do with millions of low skilled workers who can't be trained for various reasons. This is a huge historical problem. And I dont have a solution. No one has.

@issecret1 Sadly that's the state of things. A suggestion: if you are still young/studying, do an apprenticeship part time while studying. Once you get too old you are f***ed otherwise.
2
Wrong, even if you have local production, that doesnt increase wages alone. Otherwise people in 1900 would be all rich. instead they were poorer than today.
2
YEah big cities attract scammers, avoid them. They see that you are a stranger and target you.
2
@gadflyofhumanity_6847 Much better to be in the USA and have a CHANCE to ge tout of poverty. Who cares about healthcare? Seriously? Only boomers and pensioners. I'm young, my expenses are NOT healthcare. EUrope thinks only about OLD people like you. I want to WORK and be able to AFFORD a house. I don't CARE about healthcare. Healthcare is SECONDARY, I dont want to SURVIVE, I want to LIVE.
2
Wrong. The richest countries in history were not producers but service economies.
2
Poverty is reducing bro...who told you poverty is growing?
2
@reggie69. Public transport is cheap only if you are middle class, work in the city and live in an area covered by it. The poor work outside of the city and live in areas with low transportation infrastructures usually.
2
@dinsel9691 keeping inequality in check doesnt work. They tried it, it was called socialism. it didnt make everyone happy, the contrary, it made everyone miserable. Keep everyone down is not a solution. We need to RAISE everyone up. Equality of OPPORTUNITY not outcome. I want WORK, I dont want state's handouts.
2
@razorsharp8549 Human beings always did that and always will. Migration for better opportunities. As simple as that.
2
@erickaholman1371 Yeah...COOKING, because we all know that cooks get paid so well, right? Give me a break. Cooks were never paid well and never will because there's too many of them and no demand in the market.
2
It's human nature, most people are not smart enough or mentally capable enough to be a skilled worker. I'm like them. What should I do? I tried specilizing, acquiring skills, I always fail. What do I do? Hang myself? No thanks, I'm unskilled. I work were I can, but you can't pretend to transform me in some super-skiller robot technician...I simply dont have the skills for that.

L'euro ci ha salvato. Smettila di leggere le bufale su internet. Scommetto che non hai mai studiato l'andamento della lira e dell'economia italiana negli anni 70 e 80.
1
@frederickmuhlbauer9477 BEcause it was devaluated by 15% in some years. The Euro and the common bank SAVED us from going into bankruptcy due to an excess of public spending
1
BS we did have this problem, it was actually worse, we had 20% inflation in the 70s and 80s, until the EURO single currency saved us from going full argentina and going bankrupt. Italy is a peculiar case. We are like Greece, just a tad better. We destroyed our own economy and now we are crushed by public debt and high taxes.
1
well stop one second...Elderly in southern european countries are actually RICHER than young people because they have older state pension systems that now dont exist anymore. In my country, Italy, there's more pensioners than workers, and they all earn more than min wage (dont listen to them, they will lie and claim they dont get enough but if you look at official astatistics it's clear that its not like that) Old people are the REASON why Europe is so F***D. We are f***ng the economy to pay their pensions. 100 years ago old people KEPT WORKING. The public pension system is broken. There should be only PRIVATE pensions systems where people put their own money.
1
@sirojadesign6561 This is the reason. The problem is taxes. The worker costs too much to the company, so they have to keep wages low and hire as few people as possible. MIN WAGE wont fix it, it will just cause more people to be laid off. We need less taxes, less public expense, more private insurances etc
1
@ralphemerson497 How do I get an higher wage when all the companies hire you as a temp worker and you get laid off after a few years at most? I changed3 jobs in 2 years, now I work as a contractor...no company ever asks to hire you full time and forever, they all want temp workers to ditch when they dont need them/replace them with younger people and keep costs low
1
@plinyelder8156 Amoral familism. Cultural problem of southern european countries. people are corrupted and don't trust the government but exploit it for their "family" interest.
1
Who needs those jobs today? For real, you live in fantasy land. YOu can't fight history. You can't go back. only foreward.
1
good luck defining the standard of living without a mathematical formula, genius.
1
@dmixdup I read it, it's you that don't understand. YOu literally wrote that we should use "standard of living" which is ALREADY what we use. And, sorry to break your bubble, standard of living is calculated with math formulas. Everything in economics is calculated with MATH. There's no other way to calculate things. So, your comment makes no sense.
1
- Universal income would cost more than the nations current budget. How do you pay for that? - make companies run apprenticeships: it costs too much. Companies don't do it and will never do it again, because it costs too much in today's economy. In germany it's the state funding apprenticeship. Their system seems to work.
1
Who gives a F***K about marriages when there's 50% youth unemployment and 60% female work participation in Italy?..what's the point? There's an ABUNDANCE of unemployed people iin Italy, how is having MORE people going to fix that?
1
more conspiracy theory ...great...
1
I tried and failed. Well...half failed. Now what? I gotta pay bills. I can't keep changing jobs every 2 years goddamit.
1
Poverty is concentrated in young generations. We can't afford housing with these wages. i can hardly keep a car with my current job. Most of the stuff get paid by my family.
1
@CaptainJackSparrow110 F off, poverty is relative. It means not having access to the basic services/goods that the majority of the population considers like standards. I dont wnat to live in the family, Im FORCED. What you say it's BS. People lived with older generations only in RURAL settings. Agricultural jobs. If you want to go back to feudalism, go, no one is stopping ya. MY pc is from 2009, costed me nothing since it was a gift, telecommunication in Itlay is super cheap, 20 a month for phone + 10 giga internet. Try another one kid.
1
@CaptainJackSparrow110 You are so cringe, 2016 memes lol. The economic situation in Southern europe is bad, you dont even know it. Cuz u live ina basement.
1
BEcause who's going to mantain the building/pay bills, transport the food,d istribute it, check all the documents etc? You live in a fantasy world. Think practical. Try setting up something similar in small scale. Its impossible.
1
@1112viggo Wrong, you clearly dont know much about managing a building if you think it doesnt cost more to have someone living in it. "discount" why should a private owner be forced to give charity? Are YOU forced to give charity' Why don't YOU gift your money to the poor? If it's empty there's a REASON you dummy. It means it would cost MORE to rent it. You have no idea how renting works. "supermarkets" WHO is going to take the expiring food from supermarkets to people FOR FREE? Are YOU going to do it? How are you going to RENT a truck to do it? SPOILER ALERT KID: a truck costs thousands of euros every day if you rent it And what about possible incidents/food poisoning? WHo's going to COVER that? What if you get a lawsuit by someone you gifted food from? THINK before writing. "wasting living space and resources" wow you quoting the Mein Kempf now? hahaha
1
@AOMVideo1990 This is not about homeless, or pity parties. homeless are mostly drug addicts, that's another issue. We are talking about the working poor. millions of people working full time and not earning enough to live decently. It's a global problem for unskilled workers No UBI is a silly idea that will never work, all the people who claim UBI will save us, actually never did the MATH. Even the smallest UBI's will cost MORE THAN THE CURRENT US BUDGET. How is the US gonna spaend that much? Where are thye going to find that money? No UBI guru-snake oil seller will ever tell you that with precise numbers. Just do the math. 12.000/year for 210 million adult citizens=3 trillions=90% of the current US budget. And 12k a year is not even ENOUGH to survive well in the US.
